Finding Rest for Your Soul
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28

We all know what it feels like to be tired — but sometimes it’s more than physical. Not just the kind of tired that comes from a lack of sleep (a common Singaporean malady). It’s the deep weariness of the soul: the weight of anxieties, the exhaustion of proving ourselves, the fatigue of broken relationships, or the endless demands of a busy schedule.

Life can be heavy. Too often, we carry the burden of trying to earn our worth—striving to be “good enough” for God or to impress others. We wear ourselves out trying to fix our lives before daring to look toward heaven.

This is the exact situation Jesus was speaking to in Matthew 11.

He looked at the crowd — religiously exhausted, spiritually hungry, morally bruised — and He didn’t hand them a checklist or a lecture or “magic pills”. He simply gave them an invitation: “Come to me.”

Notice that the invitation isn't based on our performance. It doesn't say, "Come to me, all you who have it all figured out," or "Come to me, you who are strong enough." It says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened."

That includes everyone. It includes me. It includes you.

Jesus offers a rest the world cannot give — the rest of knowing you are loved not for what you do, but because of who you are. It’s the rest of laying down the heavy backpack of guilt, shame, and striving, and picking up His easy yoke of grace.

Here at Cherith Baptist Church, we are simply a community learning, step by step, to respond to that invitation. We haven’t arrived. We are still discovering what it means to trade our heavy burdens for His light and restful ones. We are a hospital for the weary, not a museum for saints.

If you are feeling the weight of life today, His words are for you. You don't need to get your life in order first. You don't need to have all the right answers. You just need to come.

You can do that right now, right where you are. Just whisper a prayer and take His invitation seriously and personally.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for this kind and open invitation. You see my weariness, and You welcome me. Today, I accept Your offer. I lay down my heavy burdens at Your feet and receive the rest only You can give. Teach me to walk with You and find peace for my soul. Amen.

Reflection: What is the heaviest burden you are carrying today? In what way can you physically or spiritually "come to Jesus" with that burden right now?

We would love to have you join us sometime. Whether you're just exploring the Christian faith or have been walking with Jesus for years, you are welcome here at Cherith Baptist Church. There's always a place for the weary soul here. God bless you.
